Kyanite spheres from Kola Peninsula

KYANITE (DISTEN) -a mineral, silicate of aluminium, Al2SiO5. The name of this mineral has taken place from grech. "kianos" - dark blue, blue. Color usually blue, less often pale-green or white. Has the same structure, that andaluzite and sillimanite, but other crystal structure. As against these minerals, kyanite meets as the extended lamellar crystals with accomplished cleavage in one direction parallel to lengthening. Hardness 5 (it is scratched by a knife) in a direction of lengthening of a plate and 7 (is not scratched by a knife) in a perpendicular direction (whence his synonym disten, i.e. "double durability"). Density 3,5. It is applied to manufacturing high-strength fire-resistant and acid resistant materials, and also for manufacture of aluminium-silicon alloys of type silumins. The main suppliers industrial kyanits - India and the USA (states of Georgias, Virginia and South Carolina). In Russia the big stocks kyanits are known on Kola peninsula and in Urals Mountains.

Metaphysical: Blue Kyanite strengthens glands and removes energy blocks. It also dispels anger, is very calming, enhances serentiy and aids in dream recall.
